St James’ eclipses 1000 sandwich milestone at latest Cub Sandwiches event

St James’ has achieved yet another extraordinary milestone in our Cub Sandwiches program, with an incredible 1000 sandwiches being made for students in our local community during our second session of 2024.

It means the previous record of 930 sandwiches, which was achieved at the first session of this year, has also been eclipsed.

After making and delivering 2000 sandwiches during its inaugural year in 2023, Cub Sandwiches has now almost reached that mark halfway through 2024, with two more sessions still to come this year.

Each session sees St James’ students, parents, staff and parishioners coming together to make a difference in our local community.

The Cub Sandwiches program aims to provide nutritious cheese toasties to school students, helping to alleviate food insecurity in the local community. The sandwiches are distributed to students who go to school without breakfast or do not have any lunch, ensuring that they have something to eat during the day.

The schools who are the beneficiaries of the 1000 sandwiches made during this session are:

Clarkson Primary School – 350

Merriwa Primary School – 100

Somerly Primary School – 250

Alkimos Primary School – 100

Alkimos Beach Primary School – 100

Yanchep Rise Primary School – 100

The St James’ service initiative of Cub Sandwiches is in partnership with Eat Up Australia, a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to support students’ wellbeing. Alarmingly, one in five Australian children attend school without breakfast or lunch.

Stacey Syme, Service Learning Coordinator at St James’, expressed her excitement and pride in the community’s efforts.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and generosity of our students, staff, and community members who came together with one common goal – to help people who are hungry and in need. There is a real sense of accomplishment and pride at St James’ as we reflect on the impact we have made in our local community. By working together to reach this goal, we have not only broken a record but more importantly, we have made a difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate,“ Mrs Syme said.

The next Cub Sandwiches session will take place on Wednesday 31 July. Please visit Trybooking to secure a spot.
