2023 NIPSSA Cross Country Carnival

On a cold and damp day, the St James’ Interschool team gathered at Mawson Park to compete in the highly anticipated 2023 NIPSSA Cross Country Carnival. With a total of 60 dedicated Junior School athletes putting their training to the ultimate test, the event proved to be a remarkable showcase of determination and resilience.

Led by captains Ryder D and Sienna T, the St James’ team displayed exceptional talent and sportsmanship throughout the carnival. Despite the inclement weather, their commitment to training was evident as they pushed themselves to their limits, striving for success in each race.

One standout performance came from Lylah G, (Year 2), who exhibited incredible speed and endurance, securing first place in the Girls’ division for her year group. Another notable performance was delivered by Hayden M, (Year 6), who battled against the adverse weather conditions and fierce competition to claim a commendable second place in the Girls’ division for her year group. Sienna T, the team’s co-captain and a Year 6 student, showcased her exceptional talent and leadership skills, securing an impressive fourth place in the Girls’ division for her year group.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the St James’ team displayed remarkable teamwork and camaraderie, supporting one another throughout the races. Athletes could be seen encouraging their teammates, providing motivation and words of support, exemplifying the true spirit of sportsmanship.

The St James’ team’s resilience was truly remarkable, as they navigated the muddy and slippery terrain with determination and perseverance. Regardless of the poor conditions, each athlete exhibited unwavering resolve, crossing the finish line with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

The success of the carnival would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the spectators, who braved the cold and rain to cheer on the runners. Their presence and encouragement undoubtedly played a significant role in the athletes’ performance, and their dedication is greatly appreciated.
