It was a St James’ takeover of the South West last week as our students and staff headed to the region for our Year 10 Outdoor Ed camp!
Over the course of the week, students and staff were challenged with a variety of exciting and physically demanding activities. From abseiling down steep cliffs to paddling through challenging canoeing courses, exploring underground caves, and tackling rugged hiking trails, every day was filled with new adventures and challenges. Students were also tasked with setting up their own camps each afternoon and cooking for themselves each night, promoting both independence and teamwork.
The highlight of the camp was the infamous 16km hike, which culminated in the gruelling ascent up Heartbreak Hill. While the hike tested physical endurance, it also demanded mental resilience. Through perseverance and support from their peers, our students managed to make it to the summit.
Throughout the week, it was fantastic to watch the Year 10 students step out of their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and rely on each other. The group dynamics were truly inspiring, as students supported one another, pushed each other to succeed, and shared in the triumphs and struggles.
We would also like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and staff who made this year’s camp possible. Their dedication to guiding, supporting, and encouraging the students was evident throughout the week. Not only did the teachers act as leaders and mentors, but they also participated in the same activities as the students. Their efforts made a significant impact on the students’ experience and helped ensure the success of the camp.
