Thank You Father John! Celebrating a legend of St James’

As we end the school year, we bid a fond farewell to a truly remarkable member of our community – Reverend John Taylor. After ten years of dedicated service as our Chaplain, Reverend Taylor is retiring, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and shape the heart of our school for many years to come.

Reverend Taylor’s journey with St James’ began with the school’s very foundation, where he has been an integral part of our growth and success. His faith, commitment, and warmth have made him a beloved figure, not just among students and staff, but within the broader community.

As Chaplain, Reverend Taylor’s role extended far beyond leading chapel services. He has been a guiding presence at key school events, from the Year 12 Valedictory to major celebrations such as St James’ Day, Easter, and Christmas. His deep understanding of Christian values, paired with his gentle yet firm leadership, has had a profound impact on the lives of so many within our school.

In his role as a teacher of Christian and Values Education, Reverend Taylor has guided students with wisdom, compassion, and a firm belief in the power of faith to shape character. His lessons have been more than just academic – they have been about instilling values such as kindness, integrity, resilience, and love.

Whether leading students through discussions on moral choices or offering support in times of personal struggle, Reverend Taylor has been a constant source of guidance. His teaching, which focused on building strong ethical foundations, has shaped the culture at St James’. His ability to connect with students on a personal level, to make them feel seen, heard, and valued, has earned him a special place in the hearts of all who have had the privilege of learning from him.

Reverend Taylor has been present at every major event, whether leading prayers, offering words of wisdom, or simply sharing a smile with students and staff alike. His gentle yet powerful presence at assemblies, services, and community gatherings has been a source of strength for all of us.

St James’ Principal, Adrian Pree, expressed his gratitude and admiration for Reverend Taylor’s years of service to the school.

“Reverend John Taylor has been so much more than our Chaplain – he has been a guide, a mentor, and a friend to both staff and students. His unwavering commitment to our school’s values has been the cornerstone of our community. He has shown us all the true meaning of faith, service, and love in action. His legacy will remain with us long after his retirement,” Mr Pree said.

As Reverend Taylor prepares to step into this new chapter of his life, the entire St James’ community reflects on the lasting impact he has made. His faith and leadership will continue to resonate in the teachings, the traditions, and the spirit of the school. While we will miss his presence, we know that his influence will continue to guide us for years to come.

Reverend Taylor leaves us with a deep sense of gratitude and an example of what it means to live with purpose and faith. As he moves into retirement, we wish him peace, joy, and fulfillment in all his future endeavours. St James’ will always be his home, and his legacy will continue to shine brightly within our walls.’

“John’s retirement is well-deserved, and we are all better for having had him as part of our journey. “We wish him every happiness in this new chapter, and while his physical presence may no longer be with us every day, his spirit will always be a part of St James’,” Mr Pree added.

Thank you, Reverend Taylor, for your wisdom, faith and service. You will always be a cherished part of the St James’ family
