In partnership with local Aboriginal custodian and our great friend, Derek Nannup, we are excited to unveil our new Whadjuk Noongar Country signage, a meaningful step in our ongoing journey toward cultural awareness and reconciliation.
The signage features two powerful words in the Noongar language, the language of the traditional custodians of this land.
Wandjoo (pronounced: WAHN-joo) – Welcome
This word greets all who enter our school community, honouring the welcoming spirit of this land and acknowledging its deep cultural significance. It is a reminder that we are on the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people, and we stand together as a community, learning from the past and building a shared future.
On the reverse side of the signage, you will find:
Boordawan (pronounced: BOORD-wahn) – Bye / See ya later
A simple yet profound farewell, Boordawan reflects the respectful parting that acknowledges the bond we share with the land and its First Nations people. It invites us to consider the relationships that continue long after we say goodbye, and to carry the spirit of respect and care for this land with us wherever we go.
We encourage our community to pause when passing by, reflect on the significance of these words, and carry their meaning with them in all they do.
