Wellbeing

At St James', our goal is to support the holistic development of every student

We strive to create a safe and caring community where each student can thrive and develop a strong sense of self.

Inclusivity is at the core of our values. We are committed to being open and responsive to the diverse needs and abilities of all our students. By understanding their unique personalities, interests and cultures, we create an environment where diversity is embraced and a love for learning flourishes.

Our comprehensive pastoral care program is seamlessly integrated into our daily operations and curriculum. We prioritise the academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual wellbeing of each student. Through various programs, we empower our students to build essential skills such as confidence, resilience and capability.

A supportive and valued environment

We organise school events and mateship programs to encourage inclusivity, camaraderie and friendship. Animals often visit the School community and provide companionship, teaching empathy and responsibility. We strive to create a supportive and valued environment for our students, where they not only learn and grow but also feel happy, supported and valued.

Access to support and guidance

Wellbeing is of utmost importance for our Junior School students as they navigate through their education and personal development. To ensure that students have access to the necessary support and guidance, our school provides valuable wellbeing resources, including the assistance of School Chaplain Reverend Marie Aitken, Occupational Therapist Kelsey Hayes and School Counsellors Teresa Gastevich and Matthew Reeves.

Wellbeing Dogs

We are thrilled to introduce our furry friends Paddy, YoYo, and Florence to our school community! These adorable wellbeing dogs will be visiting us regularly to spread joy, comfort, and positivity among our students and staff.

Paddy

Paddy is the life of the party! His playful antics and boundless energy bring laughter and excitement to our campus. When you are looking for a friend, Paddy is ready to be your best buddy.

YoYo

With his gentle demeanour, YoYo is here to brighten your day with wagging tails and warm cuddles. Whether it’s a game of fetch or just some quality petting time, YoYo is sure to lift your spirits.

Florence

Sweet and nurturing, Florence is here to offer comfort and support. She has a special way of soothing worries and making everyone feel cherished. Her gentle nature makes her the perfect companion for quiet moments of reflection.

Research shows that interaction with wellbeing dogs like Paddy, YoYo, and Florence can reduce stress, increase feelings of happiness, and create a positive atmosphere. Their visits not only promote mental wellness but also foster a sense of community and empathy among students.
